Graduated in Utrecht as Performing Musician with distinction (1994). Teachers: Philipp Hirschhorn, Ron Ephrat. Supplier of violas National Youth Orchestra; viola player Radio Philharmonic Orchestra (1992-2005). Concertmaster Brabant Chamber Orchestra.
Conductor
Studied orchestral conducting with George Hurst and Roberto Benzi. Arjan Tien conducted in the Netherlands: Residentie Orchestra, Radio Philharmonic Orchestra, Philharmonie Zuid-Nederland, Gelders Orkest, Orchestra of the East, Chapel of the Royal Netherlands Air Force, Robeco Summer Concerts Concertgebouw Amsterdam with Metropole Orkest, made CD and DVD recordings.
Led conservatory orchestras Maastricht and Groningen, Dutch Student Orchestra and Youth Orchestra Netherlands. Currently chief conductor KwaZulu Natal Philharmonic Orchestra in Durban, South Africa and leads regular productions with other South African orchestras. Made CD with Chamber Orchestra of South Africa.
Guest conductor Bangkok Symphony Orchestra and WDR Funkhaus Orchestra.
Gave further concerts with orchestras in Brazil, Germany, Hungary, Greece, Austria, Slovenia, Turkey, Sweden and Switzerland.
Led premieres by, among others, Deux Entr’actes Tragiques by Wagner, Les Animaux Modèles by Poulenc. Directed operas with Les Contes d’Hoffmann Offenbach, God’s Video Library of M. Krüs and La Traviata of Verdi; guest conductor Värmland Opera (Sweden).
